Dream in the Dirty Thirties
Subject: From 1930 to 1936, there were massive drouts and over-farming in sections of the US leading to massive top soil erosion and dust storms. In a 1934 storm, dirt fell like snow in Chicago and much of the topsoil ended up in the oceans. The effect swelled to 100,000,000 useless acres in Oklahoma and Texas. 500,000 farmers were forced from their land to migrate to California to work others' farms at minimal wages. John Steinbeck wrote a famous novel "The Grapes of Wrath" around the phenomenom.
