The Spanish Inquisition was formed after the reconquest of the Spanish Peninsula from the various Moorish Kingdoms. The inquisition then expanded into the Americas after Columbus discovery. Only after conquering the Spanish, was the Inquisition silenced in the Americas. During its 356 year reign, over 150,000 people were accused and 3000-5000 people executed. Keep in mind this was the blunt end of the stick and many religions, festivities and even languages were extinguished to make way for Spanish Catholic rule.
