Rating: PG-13, Time: 1hr 58min, Director: Edward Zwick, Cast on IMDb How much different was this version to the original movie in 2012? Interestingly enough, this plot is actually better with much more second guessing where the movie is going so that is very rewarding as a viewer. That may be related to the change in director from 2012. In the first movie, the director is Christopher McQuarrie. Not sure why Tom Cruise switched directors since they worked together on Mission Impossible and Edge of Tomorrow movies. One challenge in this is they introduce a daughter character in the mix, which at first I thought would ruin any possibility of another sequel as it got more family oriented, but they resolve this dilemma quite satisfactorily. The odd thing about the daughter role is they have clever language and the girl played by Danika Yarosh I would say does quite well as the 2nd supporting actress. It will be interesting to see how she develops as an actress in later films. Were there any parts of the movie that doesn't work? Not sure if it's believable that Jack Reacher is this drifter solving crime as ex MP makes sense overall. In reality, after you leave the services you would start to forget the lingo, connections and how the system works, but as a movie you can suspend your disbelief and roll with the character. I think the nice part of the movie is it is just an old fashioned detective movie with an over the top detective. There are plenty of good plot twists in the movie as Reacher, played by Tom Cruise peels back the onion in the case. The deception in the case and coverup reach to the highest levels. What did you think of the side story of Turner's career as a MP?
They briefly touch on the harassment she faced rising the ranks to Major with stereotypes like being the baby sitter or to be protected by tougher majors like Reacher. Reacher wins the argument, but they do play with this a bit to show the updated military of today. Definitely gives some character to her character. What do you think of the movie overall? I would say its an entertaining film to unwind. It would be interesting to read the books to see how different the action sequences are vs. the literary devices and plot unrolling.
