Rating: PG-13, Time: 2hr 20min, Director: Steven Spielberg, Cast on IMDb How did this play out with all the retro throwbacks? At first I was thinking that it would be really silly to have all the possible scenarios of your youth in the background, kind of like Steven Spielberg got lazy and just cooked everything together like a pot luck. Then you start watching and continually see throwbacks and it just sparks a large smile across your face as you remember the 80s and 90s video games, movies and other pop culture icons like Michael Jackson. What did you think of the villain? Sorrento gets to play the corporate scum ball that climbed the corporate ladder being the pet of one of the founders of the Oasis video game. Later he forms his own company and is actively trying to win control of the world popular Oasis after the founder passes away in real life. His company has literal debt slaves working in the virtual world to pay off unpaid debts and is going to make the Oasis into a corporate bumper sticker/billboard hell for the players just to turn a larger profit. I think they could have built a bit more on why his character becomes so flawed beyond raw ambition and no talent for playing video games. What did you think of half the movie being digital since its all in the video game? I think that being a video game the audience gets to enjoy the CGI without having to surrender to a suspension of belief as we all know its a virtual fantasy anyway. So the director gets a huge pass from the audience in way that say Avatar didn't have to jump through on believability. All said, the video game stunts are really fun and feel like a video game in the outrageousness of the game tactics and trick Easter eggs that are keys to winning the entire Oasis game that until now has just been a free for all normal game. Did you have a favorite part? In one part of the Oasis, the players have to enter the Overlook Hotel from the movie the Shining. Now this is one of my favorite horror movies of all time. The best part is one of the players never has seen the movie so makes all the mistakes you could imagine from the movie. They kind of do a hack job on the movie, but its very enjoyable mashup of movies. Plus this part is total unexpected in a game in a way, but there have been some really weird movies in the past. Do you have a painting on the movie? Pennywise Quarter Pounder Foolish - 24x36 inches Although not in the movie exactly, my IT painting would have fit into any of the horror spaces in the Oasis since you can theoretically dive into any movie ever made up to 2030 especially from the 80-90s. In this painting, I have the blend of Ronald McDonald and IT clown with McDonald's own tagline "I'm lovin' IT". My take is that this clown is actually killing more kids by getting them hooked on hamburgers, which can lead to an early heart attack death in your 40-50s.
